Paul C. Cherry
Paul C. Cherry, MS, LPC, LCDC, is a licensed professional counselor and licensed chemical dependency counselor based in Fort Worth, Texas. He is the co-founder of Same Time Next Week? Counseling & Consultation, PLLC, a growing private group counseling practice, where he provides mental health counseling and addiction treatment while helping lead the development and growth of a collaborative counseling space.
Paul earned his Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Tarleton State University and holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Virginia Tech.
Before becoming a counselor, Paul spent more than a decade as an elementary and middle school teacher, where he developed curriculum, mentored educators, and supported students facing emotional and academic challenges. His counseling work today reflects that same dedication to growth and resilience.
Paul has presented on topics including his book Blazing the Longest Path: Empowered Steps for Liberation from Addiction; using endurance sports, specifically ultra-marathon running, as part of addiction recovery; stress management; adverse childhood experiences (ACEs); and innovative approaches to addiction recovery. His professional focus centers on helping individuals reclaim purpose and power, develop resilience, and create meaningful change in their lives.
Paul is an avid ultra-marathon and trail runner, having completed over 20 marathons and 50+ ultra-marathons, with distances ranging from 50k (31.1 miles) to 108k (67 miles) races. On his long races, Paul regularly comes into contact with other endurance runners who have struggled with addiction and mental health concerns, which become a topic of conversation for the many hours on the run.
Paul has studied and practiced Buddhist psychology and existential philosophy for over a decade, integrating the Eightfold Path, liberation, and the givens of existence into his counseling practice. Using this integrated approach, Paul has helped many addicts who felt hopeless, helpless, and powerless over addiction to achieve liberation from it. Blazing the Longest Path is his attempt to bring his counseling practices and philosophy to broader audiences and help many others achieve liberation from addiction.
